Open show 2021

Please note the following entry figures for our upcoming show on 21st November. Bracco 6, Brittany 16, GSP 29, GWP 3, Vizsla 18, WH Vizsla 18, Spinone 13, Munsterlander 17, Weimaraner 18, Import Register 8.

First in Ring 1 will be Vizsla followed by Weimaraners, Ring 2 Brittany followed by Munsterlanders, Ring 3 GSP followed by WH Vizsla. Other breeds will be allocated as & when rings become free. HPRGA regret that there will be no catering at the venue only drinks from a vending machine, this is beyond our control. We look forward to seeing you all and thank you for the splendid entry numbers.

There will also be a raffle, if you have anything you can kindly donate for the draw, Bring it along on the day.  

A date for your diary!  We’re thrilled to be holding our Open show this year despite the challenges. Fabulous judges, always a great atmosphere and prizes to boot.

Russell has over 40 years’ experience in showing dogs as owner, handler, and judge. He awards CC’s in 19 breeds, 18 being Gundogs and judges all over the UK, Ireland, Holland, and Finland. He judged at Crufts in 2018 and will again in 2022. Russell’s experience and skill have seen him achieve Show Champions/Champions in 3 breeds; Gordon Setters, Field Spaniels, Pointers and CC’s and Res CC’s in another 3 breeds Sussex Spaniels, Hungarian Vizsla and Rhodesian Ridgebacks. His success includes Best of Breed at Crufts in 1996 in Field Spaniels including an amazing sweep of Dog CC & BOB, Res Dog CC and Res Bitch CC in the same year as well as Group 2 and Group 3 places at Championship Shows. This record combined with Russell’s experience on Championship Show Committees as Group Steward, Chief Steward and Show Manager at various times over the last 30 years means he can provide all the knowledge and guidance needed.

Numbers will be limited. One handler one dog only. Preference will be given to members with HPR breeds. All spectators welcome.

We, the Committee, are a friendly lot and we could do with some more input from members of the Association, every member joins for different reasons and will put a different spin on things and it is these things which help move the Association from strength to strength.

Changes to the Judges Education Programme

Judges Education Programme

As of January 2021 the Kennel Club has stated that Judges should meet certain basic requirements.  Previously, as we all know, Breed Clubs maintained their own Judging Lists and, in some instances, as minimum numbers were required in order to progress some people could effectively never achieve the number of dogs in order to so do.

Level 1 is the basic level at which one can accept judging appointments.  Level 1 requires that the prospective judge fulfils the following criteria:

  1. Has a minimum of 5 years proven interest in pedigree dogs.
  2. Attends the Requirements of a Dog Show Judge seminar (not required to pass the exam at this point)
  3. Attends a Conformation and Movement Seminar.
  4. Completes 2 full days of Stewarding.

Once this level has been achieved, then the judge is eligible to judge 3 classes (4 classes if 1 is a Puppy class) at Open & Limited Shows for a particular breed.

Level 2 requires the above but passing the Requirements of a Dog Show Judge.

Attending a BAD for the breed & pass the MCE (multiple choice exam)

Watch the stewarding seminar and take the online quiz.

Complete the critique writing seminar & take the online quiz.

This allows judging of any number of classes in that breed.

If any individual judge wishes to judge more than 1 breed, then a BAD & MCE should be completed for each individual breed.

 MEETING TIMES: 9:15 for 9:30 am – for both venues

DIRECTIONS: will be sent to attending candidates

ENTRIES WILL CLOSE: on the Sunday preceding the training day

ENTREY FEES:  £60.00 member | £65 non-member

These days will be for a maximum of 5/6 dogs. More may be added as government and KC directives allow. The day will be most suitable for Novice dogs & handlers and those just starting out with their training regime and/or problem solving. Candidates will work on hunting practice, steadiness and the development of retrieving skills in woodland as well as more open ground, under the supervision of trainers who have been involved with the working and training of HPR breeds over many years. Government Covid protocols applicable to each date will apply.  This will be a very full and social day. You will be responsible for your own refreshments, food, water and towels for your dog. Please bring all relevant training aids, hand sanitizer, gloves and masks if pertinent.

In the case of over subscription priority will be given to members and then to novice handlers and young dogs.

  • Please email completed forms to the address below.
  • Upon notification of acceptance to the training day, successful candidates will pay the fee by bank transfer. HPRGA bank details will be forwarded.
  • In the event of an oversubscription a draw will be held. All applicants will be notified by email. Any over subscription will form a reserve list. If the fee is not paid within 36 hours of notification, the next person on the reserve list will be offered the place.
  • If anyone has to pull out at short notice, for a genuine reason, I will do my best to fill the place, if I am successful your fee will be returned. If there is insufficient notice, or I am unable to fill the place for any other reason the fee will be forfeit.
